Agricultural independence ranks as high as energy independence if we are to have a safe, guaranteed way to feed our nation and the world. Again, ensuring that markets are free and fair will allow farmers at all levels, from the family operation to the mega-corporation, to conduct business in a system that will allow prices to reflect appropriate signaling from suppliers and those who consume those products.
We must ensure we guarantee the security of our farmers by providing crop insurance and allowing farmers to gain the most production possible out of the precious land. Reducing or eliminating regulations that impose costs should be a top priority of Congress. Further, markets are most efficient when interfered with the least. Subsequently, price supports in certain segments of the agriculture industry must be phased out over time. Every American benefits when markets operate at peak efficiency.
